Organized as a signature highlight of HKUST’s 35th-anniversary celebrations, the "SURREALITY" Summer Public Tour invites you to experience a pioneering, large-scale cross-regional Mixed Reality (MR) × Artificial Intelligence (AI) digital art exhibition.
Co-presented by the Academy of Interdisciplinary Studies (AIS) / Division of Emerging Interdisciplinary Areas (EMIA) at HKUST and the Center for Metaverse and Computational Creativity (MC2) at HKUST(GZ), this groundbreaking showcase celebrates the collaborative strengths of both campuses in interdisciplinary research and computational creativity, driving innovation talent across the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. Following its simultaneous grand opening in June, the exhibition continues this August with exclusive public guided tours at the Clear Water Bay campus.
The Experience & Exhibition Highlights
Vistors can freely explore 13 selected digital masterpieces spanning three curated exhibition areas, including:
- The Gate (《門》): The exhibition's core metaverse installation. Step inside a turning armillary sphere to instantly traverse the virtual spaces between the Clear Water Bay and Guangzhou campuses in real-time, showcasing our seamless dual-campus connection.
- Kunpeng (《鯤鵬》): A spectacular visual feast where a giant mythical fish leaps out from Sai Kung’s Port Shelter and transforms into a majestic soaring roc right before your eyes.
- GFP Bunny (《綠色螢光兔》): An MR recreation of the world-famous classic work by internationally acclaimed contemporary artist Prof. Eduardo Kac, sparking global reflection on genetic modification, bioethics, and the boundaries of art.
