On the occasion of the 35th Anniversary of HKUST, the HKUST Materials Forum 2026 cum Establishment Ceremony of the Department of Materials marks the inaugural major academic gathering following the establishment of the HKUST Department of Materials. Distinguished scholars, heads of university materials departments, and cutting-edge researchers from the field of materials science in Hong Kong, mainland China, the United States, South Korea, and other regions will gather at HKUST to witness the inauguration of the Department of Materials and engage in discussions on the frontiers and future opportunities in materials science.
Materials science serves as a vital bridge connecting basic science, engineering technology, and industrial innovation, and is a fundamental driver for breakthroughs in fields such as energy, information, artificial intelligence, life health, and sustainable development.
The newly established Department of Materials at HKUST will leverage HKUST's strengths in science, engineering, and interdisciplinary research. It will focus on developing energy and information materials, and health and biomaterials, as well as sustainable engineered structural materials.
Furthermore, it will establish advanced characterization and computational simulation platforms, and an AI-driven materials research platform to foster cross-disciplinary innovation and talent cultivation in materials science.
This forum invites several scholars with significant international influence.
