The Jobs and Development Conference (#JobsandDev) brings together researchers, policymakers, and practitioners to share global insights on jobs, labor markets, and inclusive development.
Hosted by the HKUST Institute for Emerging Market Studies (IEMS) as part of HKUST’s 35th anniversary celebrations, the two-day event underscores the University’s role as a global hub for dialogue on economic transformation.
Co-organized with the World Bank, UNU-WIDER, and the International Labour Organization (ILO), and in partnership with leading research institutes such as the University of Cape Town’s DPRU and Poland’s Institute for Structural Research, the conference offers a prestigious platform for high-level exchange.
Through keynote speeches, policy panels, and around 60 research presentations, attendees will examine the rapidly evolving forces shaping labor markets, including AI, climate and energy transitions, and demographic shifts. These discussions will also explore how policies, institutions, and skills development influence job creation and job quality across diverse contexts.
Ultimately, the conference aims to expand global knowledge, deepen understanding of the interplay between development and work, and advance effective employment policies—particularly for low- and middle-income countries.
