The Hong Kong International University Student Weiqi Competition is a premier annual event bringing together outstanding university players from Hong Kong and around the world. The competition celebrates the intellectual depth and strategic sophistication of Weiqi, while honouring the rich cultural heritage and the enduring values of Chinese culture. Successfully hosted at The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) for three consecutive years, the 2026 edition will return to campus from July 14-18, 2026, with the Opening Ceremony held at the Shaw Auditorium on July 15, 2026.
Organized by the Hong Kong Greater Bay Area Weiqi Promotion Association, the competition extends beyond tournament play. It serves as a distinguished platform for youth development, cultural exchange, and international engagement, bringing together university students from Hong Kong, cities across the Greater Bay Area and the Chinese mainland, as well as Southeast Asia, Europe, and the United States.
Through rigorous competition and meaningful interaction, the event nurtures the next generation of Weiqi players while showcasing Hong Kong as an international hub for mind sports and cultural dialogue. Strategic, intellectually stimulating, and globally connected, the competition highlights Weiqi as both a timeless art and a modern bridge between cultures.
